Article – intervention of the mayor of Volos at the POST OFFICE regarding the investment
Last week, and a few more before, we witnessed, not all of them are true and I explain below why, a graphic attempt by certain circles, mainly supporters, to highlight the issue of making an investment and specifically this storage and transfer of gas liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Volos in a matter of life and survival of the city itself in the context of the logic “If reality does not agree with our views, worse for reality”.
And the reality is one: this famous investment is “frozen” and that is why it seems that the intention and the planning of the government are changing, but also why the investors themselves are hesitating since now the international demand for natural gas is falling spectacularly and such investments are likely to become unprofitable and loss-making.
An attempt was made, therefore, to form a front of representatives of the various self-proclaimed political and economic “elites”, the self-proclaimed “gurus” of science and the permanent leprechauns of the so-called ecology, together an oligarchy and heterogeneous group, in terms of the aspirations, motivations and interests of its members and that with the method of… tin they tried to attract the attention of society, which -also here- turned its back on them.
Undoubtedly, the LNG issue is a very serious matter, which needs to be thoroughly considered and studied. There are economic and social advantages of an investment of this size, there are also serious reservations on issues of public health and safety and environmental protection. However, because it is such a serious and sensitive subject, it is obvious that it cannot be analyzed by all those who presented themselves as environmental fighters and protectors of citizens, without having the information and information, like all of us, that is required to express comprehensive and informed vision.
Thus, in a simulated meeting of the Municipal Council, with the participation only of minorities, where personalities and names worthy of co-starring in the performances of the populist Markos Seferlis were exposed, but not of local political and social life, in a self-deification and attribution to themselves and mutual praise and admiration for their combativeness, will and determination to prevent an investment that they admit they do not know exactly what it is about. The citizens of Volos, however, know from their own experience that both I, as the Mayor, and the current Municipal Authority as a whole, do not give discounts in matters of Health and Public Safety, and mainly in these. We act prudently, seriously and transparently, examining every aspect of the matter so that we can intervene promptly and effectively wherever and whenever it is seen. Without shouting, populism, hypocrisy and theatricality.
We have received criticism that we secretly brought in interested investors because we supposedly have dependencies and commitments! Yes, so secretly that the presentation of his plans took place in a hall of the City Hall, with a live broadcast by almost all the media precisely so that all interested citizens were informed of the details. (They may remember past practices with pocket beggars by certain “benefactors”, but… we are not all the same)
They accuse us, through the new anecdote of the “informal itinerant Prosecutor” (!) of uncritically accepting the investment at the same time that they themselves protest because none of the many special studies required by National Legislation and International Agreements . Thus, one realizes the seriousness and value of his words.
As the first to make it clear that we are not going to consent to any investment unless the studies that will provide guarantees for public health and safety and the environment are presented beforehand, we are. But how can we evaluate and judge based on the recommendations of competent experts and institutions (and certainly not based on the opinion of every resurrected father-in-law or every aspiring midwife in history) when they have not yet been archived? ? Based on small group conveniences? Childish ambitions of all kinds who have had their fill of money and are desperately seeking “glory” even as a pawn? The bastards from various graphic companies, who are marginalized more and more each day and clamor hysterically to be noticed?
They protest because supposedly we do not express our opinion to the RAE and when asked if they have in mind any case in which the expression of an opinion to the contrary is not the decision of the Energy Regulatory Authority, they answer no, but… Responsibility Monument!
In conclusion: We as the Municipal Authority of today and, with the help and support of the citizens, tomorrow will not accept anything that is reasonably considered harmful and constitutes the slightest threat to the city and citizens. However, since we do not operate with attachments, ideologies and daydreams of various kinds, we continue to operate with seriousness and responsibility, we prioritize and deal with the real and pressing problems that life presents us every day and in any case we do not fight with them. shadows and windmills. Our only criterion is the satisfaction of the well-intentioned interests of the city and the citizens.
