Sustainability and “green” development in the spotlight. An event marked the beginning of the new vision for AVRA Natural Mineral Water.
Zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2025. This is the goal that Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon announced at an event on May 10 at Aegio, setting the tone for the new era.
The model plant is breaking new ground with the strategic pursuit of climate neutrality and zero carbon dioxide emissions throughout its value chain by 2040.
The important distinctions and a new ecological packaging
Each bottle cap is precious. And this, Aura Natural Mineral Water knows it well. Thus, from the end of the month, it arrives in a new container with a non-removable lid, with ecological awareness and extra ease of use.
Thus, Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon managed to implement the European Directive and the corresponding alignment of Greek legislation earlier, helping to collect and recycle more than 250 million caps.
The AVRA Natural Mineral Water factory has an important exclusivity in Greece. It is the only water bottling plant that Platimun has received an AWS distinction for the proper management of water resources, while using electricity from 100% renewable sources and constantly reducing the relative consumption rate. Since 2016, it has reduced the plastic it uses to make its products by approximately 23%, while producing zero waste as it recycles and uses 100% of it.
Thanks to its sustainable practices, it ranks second in water and energy use indicators among all water plants in the 29 countries where the Coca-Cola HBC Group operates.
Of course, sustainability and respect for the environment are always at the center of a corporate culture, which is restructured over the years to keep up with developments. With the factory’s forklift fleet already 100% electric, the next focus is zero direct emissions by increasing the use of clean, renewable energy sources to 100%, from the current 91%, in the use of alternative ways of heating water with LPG substitution. with electric heaters, to minimize indirect emissions from the broader supply chain, reducing emissions from primary and secondary packaging.
As part of the event to announce the objective of neutralizing the climate of the factory, a symbolic planting of trees was implemented on the forecourt of the factory.
There, Maria Anargyrou-Nikolic, General Manager of Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon for Greece and Cyprus, said:
“The AVRA natural mineral water plant is a state-of-the-art unit, with a significant economic and social impact on the wider region. It is a model unit for innovation and sustainability. We are particularly proud to announce the factory’s goal to become climate-friendly neutral by 2025, as we introduce new, more sustainable packaging with a non-removable lid. This is a historic moment for our company and our zero-carbon 2040 strategy, with a vision of a better world for all.” .
Likewise, Giorgos Chantoumakos, Supply Chain Manager of Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon for Greece and Cyprus, said among others:
