Chania prefecture is acquiring new luxury resorts, while multi-million euro projects are under construction and in the plans, to be completed in the next few years.
Chania Prefecture has been attracting new hotels, strong domestic and foreign investors and strong interest in recent years as there are many opportunities for tourism development. At the same time, the general perspective of Crete after the completion of the new highway on the northern axis, the increase in cruise ships, etc. It is estimated that they will contribute not only to the quantitative increase in tourism, but also to the qualitative one.
In the coming weeks, the opening of the new hotel of the chain of Israeli interests, Brown Hotel, in Chania, in the Akrotiri area, is expected. It is only the company’s second five-star hotel, after the one in Corinto. Isla Brown Chania, is being developed at the eastern end of the Gulf of Chania, on the Akrotiri peninsula and has 148 luxury rooms and suites with private pools. Its facilities include 3 large swimming pools, a spa and wellness center and 3 restaurants. The design of the new hotel was led by Liakos Architects and Associates, who designed a modern hotel complex connected to the location and history of the Akrotiri peninsula, offering tranquility and a refined aesthetic.
In the city of Chania, the new Azade hotel was inaugurated last summer under the direction of Modus & Amplio. It is an iconic building dating back to 1640 AD, which has been renovated and now houses 9 rooms and suites, with high-level amenities and services. Almost all rooms have private balconies with views of the sea, the old Venetian port and the walls of the old Venetian city.
The prefecture’s luxury additions include the two units of Domes Hotels & Resorts, which effectively brought the Marriott chain to Chania, as Domes Noruz Chania operates under the Autograph Collection band and Domes Zeen Chania operates under The Luxury Collection brand. Both hotels are for adults only.
The expected arrival of Sani/Ikos
This year the work of the Sani/Ikos group begins, making its debut in Crete with an investment of 125 million euros, for the creation of the luxurious Ikos Kissamos resort. The ultra-luxurious resort will be developed over an area of more than 200,000 square meters. in the bay of Kissamos Chania. The new Ikos will have a total of 400 rooms, bungalows and villas that will extend along 600 meters of beach. It is scheduled to open in May 2025. To create the unique area of 200,000 square meters, the group acquired and consolidated more than 30 individual lots. Upon completion, more than 750 new jobs will be created.
The mega project in Kolymbari
In the Kolymvari area of Chania, at the “Ravdoucha” location, the Cypriot group Leptos has been promoting the “Costa Nopia” tourism investment complex for years. Having received the approvals from the municipality of Platanias and the Region of Crete for the Environmental Impact Study, it has started the procedures for the permits. The project, which has a budget of more than 300 million euros, contemplates the creation of 13 neighborhoods with approximately 830 homes in which shops are also located to serve residents and visitors. In addition, it includes two hotel units with a total capacity of 300 rooms and 600 beds, a medical office and a pharmacy. A small 9-hole golf course and other sports facilities and hotel infrastructure such as tourist accommodation, restaurants, cultural facilities (for example, the olive museum or other local products), etc. will be created.
According to the study, the objective of the investment is to create a very high-level, integrated vacation and tourist complex that attracts visitors throughout the year.
Uphill to Chania airport

More than 115 cruise ship arrivals have already been scheduled at Souda port for this year.

According to data from research company Transparent in Chania, currently registered available short-term rental properties on the various online rental platforms have increased by 24% to 2,421 properties, including many ultra-luxury villas, located in the entire prefecture.
