The Oakland Athletics are hiring a full-time Biomechanic to assist the Medical Services Department. This position will lead numerous organizational priorities, including the creation and delivery of new sports performance metrics and reports, play an active role in biomechanical assessments of internal and external organizational players, and serve as a cornerstone for stakeholders across Major Leagues, Baseball Operations, Research and Development Staff, Player Development, and Sports Science. This position will be based primarily in Mesa, AZ.
key responsibilities
- Organize, interpret, and run analysis based on in-game biomechanical data.
- Collaborate with the Director of Sports Medicine to establish objective measures and workload-based reporting related to player health and injury prevention.
- Assist with the development and execution of performance science initiatives across the organization, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with player development, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and front office staff
- Test, implement, and create protocols for new and developing technologies within the world of baseball science.
- Work with baseball performance staff, player development, and research and development departments to improve and adapt individual player development plans.
- Provide biomechanical/sports science analysis of first-year Draft prospects
Ratings
- A graduate degree in biomechanics or related field, and/or demonstrated experience in collecting, interpreting, modeling, and applying biomechanical data is preferred.
- Demonstrated work in sports science or performance field, either with team or program, related to data collection, analysis, and implementation (preferably baseball).
- Strong proficiency in data analysis tools is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Some travel required (California, affiliated cities, or other locations)

The Oakland A’s are hiring a full-season Advanced Scouting Intern to assist the Advanced Scouting Department. This position crosses into the intersection of several fields (Baseball Operations, Player Development, Video, Research and Analysis). The ideal candidate will seamlessly integrate into the advanced work process, assisting technical and video support staff with pre-game and pre-game tasks throughout the 2023 season. This position will be based primarily in Oakland, CA.
key responsibilities
- Assist in pre-game preparation and assignments for the coach and advanced staff.
- Conduct ad-hoc consultations for training and video staff and front office as needed
- Helps graphing, filming, and trimming gameplay videos and early work and data sources
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Ratings
- Currently enrolled in a preferred accredited college or university, and/or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated quantitative background, either by title or work sample (SQL, R, Python, Tableau, or other programming language)
- Excellent verbal communication and troubleshooting of IT or other technical issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Playing history (baseball or softball) at college level or higher, a definite plus
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Some travel required (Arizona or elsewhere)
