The footage captured the moment a killer casually told police that he had killed four people outside the house where the “brutal and vicious” attacks took place.

Damien Bendall told the officers about the murders while removing his coat to show them a self-inflicted wound.

A court heard the 32-year-old later also tell police at the station: “I bet you don’t usually get four murders in Killamarsh, do you? Well, five.” [murders]because my lady was going to have a baby.”

Bendall killed his partner of 35 years, Terri Harris, as well as their two children, Lacey Bennett, 11, and John Paul Bennett, 13, at their home in Killamarsh, near Sheffield, last year.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment at Derby Crown Court the same day.

Police went to the property on September 19 last year on reports of a man with a self-inflicted wound, before finding all four bodies inside the property.

The court produced body images showing Mr Bendall interacting with officers outside the Chandos Crescent home where he lived with Ms Harris and their two children.

They asked Mr. Bendall if he had stabbed himself, to which he replied that he had. As he unbuttoned his coat to show officers his injuries, he said, “I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to prison, obviously. Again.”

The officer replies: “Why? what have you done Have you done something to someone else?

Taking off his coat, Mr. Bendall says, “Yes. I have murdered four people.”

Police can be heard calling Mr. Bendall “calm and compliant.” The officers proceeded to search the house and found all four bodies.

Derby Crown Court also heard a recording of Bendall calling 999. “I need the police and ambulance here now because I have killed four people,” he said.

While he was still on the line, he said that the police had arrived. The court heard how her mother had previously called 999 after a telephone conversation with her son.

It also revealed details of Mr. Bendall’s police interview after his arrest. The 32-year-old told officers at the Ripley police station: “The whole house is covered in claret. I used the hammer.

“I didn’t realize what I did until I went into my room and saw my wife and my daughter.”

He then added, “I bet you don’t usually get four kills in Killamarsh, do you? Well, five.” [murders]because my lady was going to have a baby.”

Prosecutor Louis Mably KC said he carried out “brutal, vicious and cruel attacks against a defenseless woman” and children.

He told the court that “none of the victims had a chance” during the attack on the house in Chandos Crescent in September last year.

“It seems every [victim] was attacked in a different room [and] apparently he went around the house looking for them, attacking them one by one, to kill them,” said the prosecutor.

His lawyer said Bendall wanted a life sentence “for taking the lives of those four young men and under such terrible circumstances.”
