MSNBC analyst and former lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Matthew Dowd reiterated his claim that Republicans driving inflation concerns are comparable to Nazis in the 1930s.
Dowd appeared Monday on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” to discuss what host Joy Reid saw as the rise of “fascism” in Republican candidates.
“The thing that scares me is that I’m not sure everyone cares. You know, I think there are some people who just sit back and let it happen, thinking it won’t be that bad. And that, to me, is almost more dangerous.” than the radicals,” Reid said.
Dowd doubled down on labeling Republicans “fascism” by comparing the GOP’s focus on inflation to the Nazis.

MSNBC HOST TELLS BIDEN AS MID-TERM ELECTION APPROACHES: ‘I’M AFRAID’
“I’m not going to say the Republicans are Nazis at this point or whatever, but it certainly sounds very familiar to what happened in Germany, which is a bunch of citizens, Adolf Hitler gets a third of the vote, no one thought about it.” . could happen there, they agreed because he said it would solve the economy and fix inflation,” Dowd said. “You can hear that kind of thing, and then, oh, lo and behold, a few years later they lost their democracy, and everyone says, how did that happen here? That is my concern. That is my concern. Obviously, the price of a hamburger, the price of milk, the price of gasoline is a concern, but that’s a short-term problem. The loss of a democracy will decimate the freedom of all”.
He added: “We shouldn’t be trying to say you need to adopt our culture or whatever. That’s the white nationalist. We should stand for democracy. We stand for the Constitution and everyone’s dignity.” That’s what we stand for, and if you’re with us, join us.”

Matthew Dowd previously compared the GOP’s economic approach to the rise of Adolf Hitler on Wednesday.

Reid agreed: “That’s exactly right. And we can all discuss tax rates and normal politics later, but we have to have a democracy to have anything to discuss. Otherwise, there’s no point, no.” there’s nothing to argue about. You have no control.” about their society.
MSNBC’S MATTHEW DOWD COMPARES GOP TO NAZI GERMANY FOR FOCUSING ON ECONOMIC ISSUES AND MEDIUM-TERM INFLATION
Although Dowd said he wasn’t going to say Republicans are Nazis, he made a similar comparison a few days earlier in “Deadline: White House.” Last week, he said the political focus on the economy was “reminiscent” of Adolf Hitler’s rise to power.
“I’ll also remind people of a history lesson that in 1930s Germany there was a candidate and a party that said they were going to do something about inflation,” Dowd said. “And they did something about inflation. Inflation went away, but so did democracy in Germany in the 1930s through 1945,” Dowd said.

MSNBC host Joy Reid and political analyst Matthew Dowd said the media shouldn’t “both sides” Republicans and Democrats, on “The ReidOut” on June 20, 2022.

Democratic adviser and frequent MSNBC guest Kurt Bardella has drawn numerous comparisons of the GOP to Nazis, suggesting that “extremist” candidates “mirror what we’ve seen elsewhere like Nazi Germany.” He has also previously referred to the Republican Party as a “domestic terrorist cell” in the country.
