Have you ever wondered what you would be like as a medieval knight? An 18th century bride? A flapper from the 20s? Nope? Well, after seeing this AI Time Machine feature, you might be tempted to reconsider, at least I was.
The feature is from the genealogy company MyHeritage. It has introduced other intriguing features like deep nostalgiathat animates images of people to make it look like they are moving and live history, which goes a step further and animates a person’s face and mouth to make it look like they are telling their life story. Now with the new AI Time Machine feature, you can upload photos of yourself and then see what the AI thinks you would look like throughout different historical periods.
If you want to give it a try, you can go to the MyHeritage website (the feature is not yet available in the app). From the home page, hover over “Photos” in the top menu bar, then select “AI Time Machine.” Upload 10-25 photos (MyHeritage recommends uploading a mix of full-body images, close-ups, upper-body photos, and side profiles). The company offers a free trial in some US states, but otherwise you’ll need to pay $10 to use the feature.
I gave it a try and was surprised (and a bit puzzled) by the results, but it was certainly fun. I was wondering what I would end up doing in my hijab, and the result was, well, interesting. In some images, the AI incorporates my hijab into a pirate outfit, and in others, it seems to have decided that I have long, wavy blonde hair. Along with a pirate, the AI envisioned me as an Ottoman Empire bride (another way of working with hijab I guess), a WWII nurse, a 1950s woman, and an American pioneer. Here are some of the more intriguing examples.
Which would apparently look like a pirate on me (blonde waves and all).

I as an ottoman bride. This was a nice way to work on the hijab.

If I were a WWII nurse.

What AI thinks it would be like in the 50s. Well, at least it made me look good.

I like the flowers in this depiction of American Pioneer.

Of course, AI isn’t perfect, so here are two slightly disturbing examples:

Side profiles can be tough. But at least I have a hijab on this one.

Besides the apparent bloody nose and mismatched eyes, this outfit is pretty cute.

MyHeritage makes it easy to download and share these creations on social media, if you feel compelled to do so. If not, you can add this to the list of things you didn’t know AI could, or should, do.
