saturday night live is known for his comedy that pushes boundaries, and while it sometimes works, sometimes people feel like they’ve crossed the line.
Over the years, the show has found itself in trouble for everything from the people they choose to host to the sketches they choose to write.
So, here are nine sketches that drew heavy criticism.
1.
Recently, saturday night live offered their version of the Try Guys cheating scandal, with many viewers feeling that the show went after the wrong people and misrepresented the situation.
One of the main concerns of the viewers was that SNL made light of the power dynamic at play between former Try Guy, Ned, and the employee with whom he had an extramarital affair.
A viral tweet from @jeannesaintremy read: “Is it just me or is it a bit fucked up that they’re making fun of a POWER DYNAMIC of a sexual relationship between a founder of a company and one of his employees?” A sentiment that was shared by many on social media.
Is it just me or is it a bit of a bummer that they’re making fun of a POWER DYNAMIC of a sexual relationship between a founder of a company and one of his employees? #snl #tryguys

In an episode where the star of django unchained Hosted by Christoph Waltz, the sketch show gave the Jesus story the Quentin Tarantino treatment in a skit called “Djesus Uncrossed.”
The reimagining saw Jesus go on a violent and bloody streak of revenge, which was received as well as could be expected by the Christian community. The parody even managed to offend the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which released a statement saying, “Such a misrepresentation of what Jesus … stands for is extremely offensive to Muslims and all those who believe in his message.”
3.
Shortly after the Tiger Woods cheating scandal broke in 2009, saturday night live offered his take on the situation, with Kenan Thompson playing Tiger and host Blake Lively playing his now-ex-wife Elin Nordegren in the skit, “The Situation Room: Tiger Woods’ Accidents.”
At the time, there were reports that Elin hit Woods with a golf club, and the satirical version of Kenan’s Tiger Woods continuing to appear on screen more and more battered was not well received.
“There is nothing funny about this story, particularly if violence was part of the events that occurred,” said National Coalition Against Domestic Violence President Rita Smith, “It decreases people’s support for victims of violence domestic”.
Four.
This 1988 skit titled “Nude Beach” was highly controversial in its day for using the word “penis” over 40 times. LOL.
Written by a young Conan O’Brien, the skit pushed the limits of its time and took full advantage of recently relaxed censorship guidelines for network television.
5.
This very recent sketch of SNLThe current season of depicts the cast as the bright blue bears from the Charmin commercials. While the content of the parody is not offensive, many have accused the show of stealing the concept entirely.
Fans have alleged that saturday night live stole the sketch from popular YouTuber Joel Haver, who released an animated comedy video titled “Toilet Paper Bears” earlier this summer.
Both sketches represent the bear son who wants to leave the family toilet paper business to pursue the arts.
Fans of the YouTuber immediately noticed the similarities and called SNL On twitter.
Fuck SNL for stealing his Charmin skit from @joelhaver. He was enjoying the episode, but it immediately soured him. They really need to stop stealing sketches; they have been doing it for decades with no consequences. Ridiculous

Even skeptics found it hard to ignore how glaring the similarities are.
I’m usually skeptical of the “SNL stole my joke” stuff, but man, that Charmin Bears/Joel Haver is so cheeky, they didn’t even try to hide it.

Joel Haver responded to the situation in a video posted to his YouTube channel, where he said, “When it comes to Charmin bears, there are a lot of coincidences that would have to line up for it to really be a coincidence, but I don’t think it was. malicious.
6.
It is very controversial SNL The sketch saw host Alec Baldwin playing a scoutmaster alongside Adam Sandler’s recurring character Canteen Boy.
Throughout the performance, Baldwin’s character makes sexual advances toward Sandler, making the audience uncomfortable at best.
A representative of the Boy Scouts of America responded to this depiction of an apparent sexual relationship between the scout and the scout leader, saying, “We don’t see anything funny about child sexual abuse, and we’re surprised that this unfunny topic is selected for a comedy skit”.
After negative public reaction, Baldwin addressed the controversy head-on when he returned as host a year later, explaining, “Now, even though the Canteen Boy character is a grown man, a perfectly intelligent 27-year-old man, not a child, Some people got the wrong idea and frankly, all hell broke loose.”
Unfortunately, people didn’t speak out loud about this sketch until long after it aired. I’m not saying people weren’t upset, but the backlash didn’t kick in in full force until around 2020.
Fallon has stated that he deeply regrets doing the sketch in hindsight. “There is no excuse for this. I am so sorry I made this unquestionably offensive decision and thank you all for holding me accountable,” Jimmy wrote in a statement.
In 2000, while I was on SNL, I made the terrible decision to do a blackface Chris Rock impersonation. There is no excuse for this. I am so sorry I made this unquestionably offensive decision and I thank all of you for holding me accountable.

And in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Rock attributed the skit to “bad comedy” and that Jimmy “doesn’t have a racist bone in his body.”
8.
Many love Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s “Dick in a Box” sketch, but as revealed in an Atlantic report, many people filed complaints to the FCC about it, which was the second most reported sketch at the time. second only to “Djesus Uncrossed”.
The report said that people considered the sketch to be a “profane attempt at humor… not at all funny and more than vulgar.”
A few years ago, Justin revealed that the FCC almost didn’t let them do the sketch and they had to negotiate with them to include the short in the season 32 episode.
Many others were upset because they felt there were double standards at play. It was not lost on people how the sexually provocative skit was broadcast live on television without Justin suffering any consequences, while Janet Jackson, with whom he performed at the 2004 Super Bowl, suffered major career setbacks after he exposed his chest during transmission.
One Twitter user wrote: “I’m not quite sure how your ‘DICK IN THE BOX’ sketch did well in SNLbut this harmless locker room mess became the shot heard around the world.”
Was Justin Timberlake an innocent bystander? Not quite sure how her “DICK IN THE BOX” skit did well on SNL, but this harmless locker room mess became the shot heard around the world ⚡️ “CBS CEO tried to obstruct Janet Jackson’s career https://t.co/D0cWlGD8Q4

In 2015, reality star Donald Trump presented SNLwhich aroused much controversy at the time of its broadcast, and again a year later when the Apprentice The host won the 2016 US presidential race.
just a reminder that SNL was one of the first major shows to normalize trump’s rhetoric by hosting him last November ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@natpyper / Via Twitter: @natpyper
The show would continue to mock Trump throughout his stay in the Oval Office, but people weren’t quick to forgive the sketch show for giving the hotel chain owner a platform.
Don’t talk to me about @nbcsnl’s Trump/Clinton skits. When SNL had Trump as its host, it went a long way toward cementing him as a candidate.
@rudepundit / Via Twitter: @rudepundit
There was no specific sketch that caused the uproar; just the presence of him was enough to make people feel uncomfortable, even SNLThe cast members.
Former cast member Taran Killam spoke to NPR about the experience, saying, “It was rough. It wasn’t enjoyable at the time and something that only gets more embarrassing and embarrassing as time goes on.”
Colin Jost also discussed the episode in an interview with MSNBC, where he shared that “There have been some hosts over the years who are true ‘confederate statues’ of entertainment. And that episode of SNL It hasn’t aged well, politically or comically.”
