Whoopi Goldberg recently challenged Meghan Markle’s comments that she felt “objectified” during her stint on the game show “Deal or No Deal”.
The moderator of “The View” argued during Wednesday’s daytime show episode that the Duchess of Sussex’s perspective may have been self-imposed.
“The objectification could come from you, and you felt about how these women were represented,” Goldberg said, adding, “We’re artists, when you’re an artist, you take the gig. You take the concert. Sometimes you’re in a bozo suit, sometimes you have a big nose, and that’s the way it is.”
“We are not journalists, we are actors, we are trying to get to another place,” he continued.
Meghan opened up about her time working as “briefcase girl” on Howie Mandel’s “Deal or No Deal” in 2006. During Tuesday’s episode of her podcast, “Archetypes,” she explained that while she was grateful to have a job as an “auditionist actress,” she ended up leaving the show because it made her feel “not smart.”
He said he knew it was “so much more than what was portrayed on stage.”

Goldberg, who achieved EGOT status as an entertainer, said she felt it was the prerogative of the royals to leave the show. But she also said that she believes the “Deal or No Deal” contestants focused on making money, not on the looks of the women.
“I don’t think people looked at these girls like that, I think people wanted the money,” she said.
Goldberg’s co-host, Joy Behar, pushed back on his statements, mentioning the gender dynamics in many game shows.
“Why does every game show have a guy running it…and a beautiful woman spinning letters or holding a box?” Behar said.
Co-host Sunny Hostin also chimed in by criticizing the lack of bodily inclusivity among women who often appear on game shows.
“But what did you think you were going to do? You know what the show was,” Goldberg replied.
Claudia Jordan, the former star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” also pushed back on Meghan’s comments this week.
The talk show host, who also appeared on “Deal or No Deal,” spoke positively about her time on the show in statements posted to her Instagram stories, according to Deadline.
“And Deal or No Deal never treated us like fools,” Jordan said in a post. “We had so many opportunities because of that program.”
Jordan later clarified that his comments were not an “attack on Meghan,” but rather an opportunity to address any “misunderstandings about the weather and the environment on the set of ‘Deal or No Deal,'” Deadline reported.
